Does fractional ownership really pay? | News |
If you are in the market for a 5 million dollar Lear Jet then it's possibly could! But if you are looking for a small airplane to fly on the weekends or on local business trips. Not likely!
Fractional programs work well with big jets and big companies like Net Jets who have hundreds of airplanes. But chances are if your buying a Cessna 172 on a fractional program with 6 other owners, you are going to be on the ground a lot more than you planned.
Everyone always wants to fly on the weekends in the summer, right? So what are you going to do when all 6 of you want the airplane?
What about if one of you wants to take it on holidays for the week?
Not only that, you have all kinds of liability issues and maintenance issues that will have to be resolved on an ongoing basis.
It can be a great idea, but if you're looking to save money then just workout a lease agreement with a local owner who never fly's his airplane! That way you save on the monthly costs as well as the upfront fees involved!
Happy flying,
James David
